Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 tbsp sriracha

  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

  • 2 tbsp rice wine

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1/4 cup of honey

  • 4-6 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tbsp fresh ginger, minced

  • 2 tbsp water

  • 2 lb of chicken breast or thigh

  • 1/2 tbsp of crushed red pepper flakes

  • 1 tsp ground black pepper

  • 1/2 tsp sesame seeds for garnish

Directions

  • Measure out all of your ingredients for your marinade and whisk together.
  • Trim any excess fat off of your chicken breast or thigh.
  • Add chicken to marinade and let it sit for at least 1 hour. If you can marinade it overnight, that is preferred.
  • Grill your chicken breast until they reach an internal temperature of 165 F.
  • Serve alongside a bowl of white rice and enjoy!

Notes

  • I like to poke the chicken with a fork a few times before adding it into the marinade to ensure all the chicken soaks in the flavor

Korean BBQ Chicken

Korean BBQ chicken is more than just a dish; it’s an experience. This culinary delight, known for its perfect blend of sweet, spicy, and savory flavors, has become a favorite among food enthusiasts worldwide. The secret lies in its unique preparation and the traditional marinades that infuse the chicken with an unforgettable taste. Let’s dive into what makes Korean BBQ chicken a must-try dish!

The magic starts with the marinade, a crucial component that sets Korean BBQ chicken apart from other barbecue dishes. The classic marinade includes soy sauce, brown sugar, garlic, ginger, and chili sauce! Some variations might involve pear or apple puree to tenderize the meat and add a subtle sweetness. This marinade doesn’t just flavor the chicken, it transforms it. Creating a caramelized outer layer that’s rich in taste and appealing in texture during the grilling process.

Bringing Korean BBQ chicken to your own kitchen is an adventure that’s both exciting and rewarding. Start with selecting the right cut of chicken – thighs are often preferred for their juiciness and flavor. After thoroughly marinating the chicken, preferably overnight, it’s time for the grilling. Whether you’re using an outdoor grill or a pan on the stove, the key is to achieve a balance between a crispy exterior and a tender, juicy interior. Serve the chicken with a side of steamed rice, kimchi, and perhaps a fresh cucumber salad to cut through the richness of the meat. For an authentic dining experience, try pairing it with a cold glass of soju or makgeolli, traditional Korean alcoholic beverages that complement the meal perfectly.
